Norsk Hydro ASA is the latest customer to grow their business with CN. The Norwegian aluminium and renewable energy company, one of the largest aluminium companies worldwide, broke ground on a state-of-the-art aluminum recycling plant in Cassopolis, MI on April 22, 2022. And, because they chose a CN Certified Rail Ready site, the new build can be on-line faster to start shipping their product.
CN's Certified Rail Ready Site Program makes it easier and faster to find a location for a customer's new business or to expand their current operation. Each industrial site is strategically situated along our 32,000 km/20,000-mile network, guaranteed to be rail accessible by CN and ready for development. Each property has also been rigorously evaluated as well as certified for industrial development and expansion by a third party with stringent criteria around municipal zoning, electrical, natural gas, water, waste-water, telecommunications, highways, and environmental assessment. This approach reduces development risk and time, enabling customers to start shipping sooner.
CN's Business Development Team, in conjunction with Operations and Marketing, leads the Certified Rail Ready Site Program. They work with customers to identify sites, collaborate through the design and construction phases, and coordinate with our extensive network of partners to get the job done. There are 12 strategically located sites currently available in the program, with more planned to be certified in 2022.
