Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. and AP Moller-Maersk agreed to expand the railroad's Vancouver Intermodal Facility, adding cargo transload and distribution infrastructure at the site, the companies said Tuesday.
An additional transloading facility will allow Canadian Pacific to move containers to and from ocean terminals using rail in large part, instead of trucks, the companies said. It will be operational next year.
Maersk expects its operation at the Vancouver site to be more responsive to demand, as using rail instead of trucks to get goods into truck trailers will save time, Omar Shamsie, President of Maersk Canada, said in a statement.
