The Mall Luton has been awarded a Merit in the 2020 Revo Purple Apple marketing awards for their interactive children's Space Camp event.

The activity involved budding astronauts hopping into a space suit before entering a pop-up planetarium to learn about stars and beyond, float through space in virtual reality, touch a real meteorite and get a taste of space by trying some Astronaut ice-cream. The set was complemented by a range of space props to create an eye-catching and unique event space. Missions ran every 10 minutes daily for 2 weeks in the summer of 2019. The event attracted nearly 3,500 participants and had an overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Virtual reality headsets provided a special immersive experience and special certificates were awarded to each astronaut on successful completion of the Space Camp, the reverse of which featured unique catering offers to be redeemed in centre. The event also encouraged sign-ups to the The Mall Luton Kids Club and generated over £800 for their charity of the year.

We wanted to be able to celebrate the 50th moon landing with cutting edge VR technology and offer the families of Luton something totally different! Offering free, quality experiences to local families is an important part of our community marketing strategy. The event was a great success and it really is the icing on the cake to be recognised for all our efforts. We'd like to thank everyone who worked alongside us to turn the event into such a success.
