Poland’s listed gaming giant CD Projekt was targeted in a cyber attack, with the attackers compromising “some of our internal systems,” the company said on February 9.

“An unidentified actor gained unauthorized access to our internal network, collected certain data belonging to CD Projekt capital group, and left a ransom note,” the company said in a statement.

CD Projekt made public the text of the note from the hackers, who claimed that they obtained “FULL copies of the source codes … for Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher, Gwent, and the unreleased version of Witcher 3.”

Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 are CD Projekt’s two best-known games, with the former having catapulted the company to global recognition. The much-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 was released in late 2020 to mixed reviews because of bugs and problem with playability on some consoles.

“If we will not come to an agreement, then your source codes will be sold or leaked online and your documents will be sent to our contacts in gaming journalism,” the note said.

“Your public image will go down the sh**ter even more and people will see how sh**ty your company functions. Investors will lose trust in your company and the stock will dive even lower!” the note also said, according to CD Projekt.

The company said that it would not give in to the demands and ensured that “to the best of our knowledge, the compromised system did not contain any personal data of our players or users of our services”.

CD Projekt also said that it contacted authorities and IT specialists for a full investigation of the incident.

The company’s stock fell 4.75% to PLN272.7 (€60.92) in the early afternoon trading on the Warsaw Stock Exchange following the announcement of the attack.
