Typically, healthcare facilities are not known for being particularly enthralling places. In fact, they are often quite stressful and don't clearly communicate their brand values.

Centene, a global healthcare provider and Medicaid-managed care organization, wanted to change that by updating its lobby with digital signage. Centene selected leftchannel, a design consultancy, to create a more engaging lobby experience with digital signage that would share the story of the organization and its brand values.

To meet this need, leftchannel provided 20-feet by 5-feet displays with three zones of content that would showcase Centene's origin, impact and vision for the future.

To learn more about this project, Digital Signage Today spoke with Alberto Scirocco, founder/creative director at leftchannel.

Q. What solution did Centene pick for this project?

A. I would say this is less about a solution that Centene picked and more so the solution we provided after understanding the goals and challenges. The approach and design concept we developed resonated with the team at Centene because it addressed those considerations and lead to not just another flat, linear timeline but rather three distinct yet overlapping narratives presented in an engaging form.

Q. What issue were they trying to solve?

A. Centene wanted to create a unique corporate lobby experience that would tell the story of their humble beginnings, their impact over the last 30 years, as well as share their vision for what's next. It was important to Centene that the experience somehow aligned with their mission of improving the health of communities one individual at a time. The experience needed to be meaningful.

Q. What are some innovative features of the display?

A. Proximity sensors activate an area of the story when a viewer steps up to that particular section of the 20'x 5' display. Elegant, sort of omnipresent motion design elements then transform to begin the activated part of the story. Hyper-directional audio from above makes the experience more immersive for the viewer without disturbing the rest of the lobby.

Q. What how does it improve the overall guest experience?

A. The ambient-to-active nature of the motion design not only sets a tone as visitors enter the lobby but captures attention as passersby look in. The story development and the interactive nature of the presentation work to strike a balance between entertainment and information.

Q. How does it integrate with Centene's overall brand?

A. The way each proximity-triggered narrative comes to life is truly inspired by Centene's focus on each individual. Each visitor/viewer feels like their presence at Centene's headquarters is important, and they are part of Centene's journey. The experience allows individuals to feel closer to the brand, even with the organization's global scale.
