FERTILISER firm CF Industries will restart production at its UK sites after agreeing "limited financial support" for a three week period - boosting the UK's dwindling carbon dioxide supplies which could have imperilled food supplies.

The gas is a byproduct of CF's fertiliser production, and after the firm shuttered two plants due to spiking energy costs there had been fears that sectors from poultry production to craft beer would be hit.

The deal, described as an 'exceptional short term arrangement' was hailed by business secretary as showing the "seriousness" with which Government had taken the shortage.
