DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) _ CF Industries Holdings Inc. (CF) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $55 million.

On a per-share basis, the Deerfield, Illinois-based company said it had net income of 25 cents.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 26 cents per share.

The fertilizer maker posted revenue of $1.05 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported profit of $493 million, or $2.23 per share. Revenue was reported as $4.59 billion.

CF shares have dropped 13% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed nearly 5%. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $41.59, a decline of 3% in the last 12 months.
