STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Charter Communications Inc. (CHTR) on Friday reported second-quarter net income of $766 million.

The Stamford, Connecticut-based company said it had profit of $3.63 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 14 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.53 per share.

The cable provider posted revenue of $11.7 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Thirteen analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $11.61 billion.

Charter shares have climbed 16% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 43% in the last 12 months.
