STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Charter Communications Inc. (CHTR) on Friday reported second-quarter earnings of $1.02 billion.

On a per-share basis, the Stamford, Connecticut-based company said it had profit of $5.29.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 17 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $4.81 per share.

The cable provider posted revenue of $12.8 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Seventeen analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $12.61 billion.

Charter shares have climbed almost 8% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 26% in the last 12 months.
