FT MYERS, Fla. (AP) _ Chico's FAS Inc. (CHS) on Wednesday reported a loss of $46.8 million in its fiscal second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Ft Myers, Florida-based company said it had a loss of 40 cents. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 33 cents per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 21 cents per share.

The clothing chain posted revenue of $306.2 million in the period, also missing Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $353.1 million.

The company's shares closed at $1.28. A year ago, they were trading at $3.04.
