MOU Signing ceremony

On June 18, Belgrade, President Xi Jinping of China and President Tomislav Nikolic and Premier Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia witnessed the signing ceremony of memorandum of understanding on cooperation (MOU) in jointly investing in and developing Serbian new energy project between Serbian minister of energy and mining Aleksandar Antic and the Chinese joint venture which is represented by Wang Jianping, chairman of the board and executive director of China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited (CEEC), Wang Yanzhi, executive director of Silk Road Fund, and Yue Xinyu, chairman of the board of China Environmental Energy Investment Limited.

In line with the MOU, the Chinese joint venture and Serbian government will invest in and develop renewable-energy and new-energy projects such as hydropower, wind power, solar energy and bioenergy in the mode of PPP. In addition, China Gezhouba Group Company Limited (CGGC) and other enterprises that are affiliated to CEEC will take part in project construction and operation in the general contracting mode of EPC. The signing of the MOU demonstrates CEEC's another significant progress, following its advancement in Lithuania and Bosnia-Herzegovina, in central and eastern European market and its vital achievement in responding to China-proposed 'Belt and Road' initiative and positively participating in China-CEE cooperation. In the future, CEEC, joint by Silk Road Fund, will exert its advantage of a whole industrial chain in power construction, under close cooperation with Serbian government, to press ahead with investment and exploration of hydropower and new energy projects in the aim of enhancing China-Serbia electric and energy cooperation.

After the signing ceremony, President Xi gave an interview to representatives of Chinese enterprises and overseas Chinese including Mr. Wang Jianping. During the visit in Serbia, Wang Jianping called on Serbian economy minister Zeljko Sertic and they exchanged friendly views on strengthening cooperation in investment and engineering contracting business.

Wang also visited employee representatives of Serbian projects undertaken respectively by Northeast Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd. of China Power Engineering Consulting Group (CPECC), the 2nd Northeast Electric Power Engineering Co. Ltd. and Shanxi Electric Power Construction Co. Ltd.. He went to Serbian Office of CGGC to convey greetings and gratitude.

CGGC Vice President Chen Xiaohua was present in the signing ceremony mentioned above. Related events were attended by responsible persons of CEEC general office and international business department. It is reported that CGGC, CPECC, the 2nd Northeast Electric Power Engineering Co. Ltd. and Jiangsu Electric Power No.1 Construction Co. Ltd. have entered into Serbian market so far. Among which, Northeast Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd. of CPECC, the 2nd Northeast Electric Power Engineering Co. Ltd. and Jiangsu Electric Power No.1 Construction Co. Ltd. separately bear the design, construction and renovation of Kostolac lignite B thermal power plant.
