The track-laying work of Tongjiang China-Russia Heilongjiang Railway Bridge, an important project under the Belt and Road Initiative, was completed recently.

The first cross-river railway bridge between China and Russia, the bridge connects Tongjiang City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, and Nizhneleninskoye, Russia. The construction within the domain of China is undertaken by China Railway Major Engineering Group. The bridge was completed in March 2019, thus connecting China's northeast railway network with Russia's Siberian railway.

The main section of Tongjiang China-Russia Heilongjiang Railway Bridge stretches 2,215.02 meters in length, including 1,886.45 meters in China and 328.57 meters in Russia, with a designed annual cargo capacity of 21 million tonnes.

Tongjiang Port is a first-class port in China. After the auxiliary track of the China-Russia cross-river railway bridge runs through, it will form a new international transport channel to Russia, which connects with the end of Russia's Far East Railway to the north, and further leads to the Russian hinterland through its Trans-Siberian Railway to the west. It becomes a brand-new Eurasian intermodal transportation channel connecting Dalian and Harbin to exit the Chinese border via the Tongjiang China-Russia cross-river railway bridge and then extend to Europe along Trans-Siberian Railway to the west, which is of great significance for promoting bilateral economy and trade between China and Russia.
