Chubu Electric Power submitted to the Nuclear Regulation Authority an application requesting permission to amend the reactor installment licenses for Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Units 3 and 4 as part of the review verifying compliance with the new regulatory requirements (Note 1). We would like to announce that today we have submitted a revised application partially modifying some of the initial filings.

Following the partial revision of the new regulatory requirements relating to "seismic motion formulated without identification of epicenter (Note 2)" in the formulation of standard seismic motion, we added the results of an assessment on the newly prescribed "standard response spectrum (Note 3)," and submitted this documentation as instructed by the Nuclear Regulation Authority (Note 4).

We will continue to diligently comply with the review being conducted by the Nuclear Regulation Authority and extend our maximum cooperation so that our compliance with the new regulatory requirements may be promptly verified.

(Note 1) Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Unit 3: Application submitted on June 16, 2015
Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station Unit 4: Application submitted on January 26, 2015

(Note 2) "Seismic motion formulated without identification of epicenter" refers to seismic motion taken into consideration in the formulation of the standard seismic motion without regard to the presence or absence of any active faults identified in a thorough investigation. The seismic motion is formulated based upon observation records obtained of earthquakes that have occurred in the past for which it is difficult to establish a relationship between the epicenter and any active faults.

(Note 3) "Standard response spectrum" refers to the seismic motion formulated by the Nuclear Regulation Authority based upon numerous records of observed earthquakes, which should be taken into account as a nationwide common standard in preparing the "seismic motion formulated without identification of epicenter."

(Note 4) A directive issued by the Nuclear Regulation Authority dated April 26, 2021 requested that operators submit no later than January 20, 2022 an application detailing, among other matters, the results of an assessment based upon the standard response spectrum with regard to "seismic motion formulated without identification of epicenter" to be taken into account in the formulation of standard seismic motion.
