EWING, N.J. (AP) _ Church & Dwight Co. (CHD) on Friday reported second-quarter net income of $218.3 million.

On a per-share basis, the Ewing, New Jersey-based company said it had profit of 87 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 76 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 70 cents per share.

The maker of household and personal products posted revenue of $1.27 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Eight analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.26 billion.

Church & Dwight shares have dropped slightly since the beginning of the year. The stock has fallen almost 3% in the last 12 months.
