Citigroup Inc. has appointed Aveline San to helm its operations in Hong Kong and Macau, as the U.S. bank pushes to grow its wealth-management business in the region.

As Chief Executive Officer for Hong Kong and Macau, Ms. San's responsibilities include fostering key client and regulatory relationships, Citi said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Hong Kong is a key growth market and regional hub for Citi," said Tim Monger, Citi's Head of the North & East Asia Cluster, in the statement. "As we continue to grow our wealth management and institutional clients business in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area," Ms. San's deep understanding of the region's operating environment makes her the ideal leader, he said.

Ms. San joined the bank in April 2019 and previously worked in senior management positions at UBS Group AG for 14 years.

She will report to Mr. Monger. Ms. San's predecessor, Angel Ng, was recently appointed Asia Head of Citi Global Wealth.
