AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Citizens Inc. (CIA) on Wednesday reported a third-quarter loss of $7.9 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Austin, Texas-based company said it had a loss of 16 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 3 cents per share.

The insurance company posted revenue of $59.8 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $59.3 million.

Citizens shares have fallen 15% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $5.75, a drop of 16% in the last 12 months.
