CLP Power welcomes and supports Hong Kong's long-term decarbonisation goal announced in the 2020 Policy Address delivered by the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (25 November) that Hong Kong will strive to achieve carbon neutrality before 2050 to combat the climate change challenge.

After the Government has formulated a future policy on long-term decarbonisation strategy and the roadmap, CLP Power will use its power expertise to work with the Government and community in delivering a stable and reliable electricity supply solution for the city.

CLP Power will continue its effort in energy efficiency and conservation public education, promote zero-carbon vehicles and green transportation, and support its customers through different initiatives to drive a low-carbon economy.

Managing Director of CLP Power Mr T K Chiang said, 'In support of the Government's carbon reduction target, CLP Power has substantially increased the proportion of gasfired generation to around 50% in 2020, achieving a reduction of about 20% in carbon intensity to about 0.4kg per unit of electricity, outperforming other developed countries such as Japan, Germany, the United States and South Korea. Looking ahead, we will continue to actively promote the local renewable energy development, closely monitor the latest technological development of new zero-carbon energy, as well as look into sourcing more zero-carbon energy via regional cooperation to achieve the long-term carbon reduction goal.'
