Coal India Ltd.'s first-quarter net profit dropped 55% as the pandemic hurt revenue, it said late Wednesday.

The Indian coal miner said net profit for the quarter ended June fell to 20.80 billion rupees ($284.0 million) from INR46.30 billion a year earlier. That narrowly missed the estimate of INR21.50 billion from a FactSet poll of analysts.

Revenue declined 26% to INR184.87 billion as demand fell from the power sector and industries closed due to the pandemic, it said.
