1 April 2021: Coats, the world's leading industrial thread company, has been certified as a 'Great Place to Work' in Sri Lanka and Brazil. This is the fourth consecutive year that Coats Brazil has achieved the recognition.

The Great Place to Work® organisation uses a combination of a Trust Index© survey and Culture Audit to assess whether the culture meets the criteria to be a certified 'great place to work'. The Trust Index© survey measures employee feedback by asking questions on the five areas of Credibility, Respect, Fairness, Pride and Camaraderie, while the Culture Audit measures how well we deploy our people practices at Coats.

Monica McKee, Chief HR Officer, Coats, said: 'Our employees are at the heart of what we do and achieving 'Great Place To Work' accreditation demonstrates that they trust us, take pride in what they do and enjoy working here. We place great importance on building a working environment in which people can succeed and it is very rewarding to have external recognition that we are achieving this.'

Examples of initiatives and programmes that have been implemented in Coats Sri Lanka and Brazil to support employee engagement include:

  • Recognition schemes to celebrate excellent performance
  • Inclusion and diversity programmes
  • Looking after employees and their families during Covid

Coats operations in a further 14 countries will be surveyed over the rest of 2021. Achieving 'Great Place to Work-Certified™' or equivalent awards for all key sites by 2022 is one of the seven targets set by Coats in its 2019 Sustainability Strategy. The activity was paused in 2020 due to Covid restrictions.
