Leading the Loop - EU beverage packaging to be fully circular by 2030
22 Feb 2021

UNESDA Soft Drinks Europe has publicly pledged that EU beverage packaging will be fully circular by 2030.

The Circular Packaging Vision 2030 includes several commitments:

  • all packaging to be 100% recyclable by 2025
  • all PET bottles to contain 50% recycled content by 2025
  • the ambition that PET bottles will be made from 100% recycled and/or renewable PET, where technically and economically feasible, by 2030
  • >90% collection for all packaging
  • increased use of refillable packaging.

As a member of UNESDA, we fully support the Packaging Vision 2030.

We have played a vigorous role in developing this new circular packaging vision. It will reduce waste and improve the carbon footprint of the European soft drinks industry. Delivering it will require collaboration across industries, policy makers, customers and consumers. Getting this right will make a genuine contribution to the EU's Green Deal aspirations.
