Colgate?s 1Q Net Sales up 16%

Financial Highlights 

1Q 2011-12 : Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited today reported net sales of Rs. 611.1 crore for the first quarter of the financial year 2011-12, an impressive 16% increase over the same quarter of the previous year. Net profit for the quarter is Rs. 100.4 crore with an Earnings per Share of Rs. 7.4 per share, despite significant increase in advertising and sales promotion expenditure to support new product launches during the current quarter

Driving Growth

During the quarter, the Company achieved a volume growth of 12% over the same quarter of the previous year led by a steady 14% growth in the toothpaste category. The flagship brands ?Colgate Dental Cream?, ?Colgate Active Salt?, ?Colgate Total? and ?Colgate MaxFresh?, along with new products such as ?Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief? contributed to this consistent growth.

The Company maintained its leadership position by registering a volume market share of 53.0% (June-May?11) in the toothpaste category and a volume market share of 40.0% (June-May?11) in the toothbrush category.  

In the emerging mouthwash category, the Company continued its growth momentum with a  substantial increase in volume market share to 24% (June-May?11).

Innovation

In the current quarter, the Company launched a series of innovative products in its various categories namely "Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief Toothpaste?, a breakthrough technology providing instant and lasting sensitivity relief, ?Colgate 360 Sensitive Pro-Relief Toothbrush?, ?Colgate Plax Sensitive Mouthwash? and ?Colgate Plax Complete Care Mouthwash?.

Funding Growth

In an inflationary environment, the Company?s continuing efforts and focussed programs to enhance efficiencies and reduce costs continue to yield strong, positive results helping to fund investments in building and strengthening brand equity and the business. 

Dividend

In the current quarter, the Company paid a First Interim Dividend of Rs. 108.8 Crore (Rs. 8 per share).
