Foundation For Amazon Sustainability (FAS) and Sabesp set up a partnership

for Amazon preservation - Sabesp's customers in São Paulo can donate

through their water bills

(06/08/2021) The Foundation For Amazon Sustainability (FAS), which supports Amazon riverine and indigenous communities, and Sabesp, one of Brazil's largest water and sanitation companies, entered into a partnership to mobilize and engage citizens in Amazon conservation and sustainable development. Both institutions intend to create a movement to promote and keep the forest safe by preventing deforestation from increasing and improving the quality of life of riverside and indigenous communities. The campaign was launched on June 8.

With this purpose, Sabesp will encourage customers to make voluntary donations through their water and sewage bill. The partnership also aims to achieve the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, namely the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 13 (Climate Action) and 15 (Life on Land).

"If we don't take initiatives, like the one that FAS and Sabesp are taking now, we will regret it - we, our children and our grandchildren. Our future depends on initiatives like this. So we are happy to be here. You can count on the state of São Paulo, on the citizens of São Paulo and on everyone who lives here to take good care of the forest and also take care of those who take care of the forest. These are lessons for life, lessons for nature and lessons of love. That's what we're doing here: we are learning a lesson in protecting life, natural life and human life, the lives of all of us," says Governor João Doria.

"This partnership is historical because it elevates the environmental benefits of the Amazon rainforest for the rest of Brazil. Sabesp recognizes the importance of the Amazon in the water circulation system in South America," says Virgílio Viana, general superintendent for the Foundation For Amazon Sustainability (FAS).
