MOBILE, Ala. (AP) _ Computer Programs and Systems Inc. (CPSI) on Thursday reported third-quarter earnings of $5.3 million.

The Mobile, Alabama-based company said it had net income of 36 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and stock option expense, came to 67 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 52 cents per share.

The healthcare information technology company posted revenue of $68.3 million in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $64.3 million.

Computer Programs and Systems shares have risen slightly more than 6% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $28.08, a rise of 21% in the last 12 months.
