MOBILE, Ala. (AP) _ Computer Programs and Systems Inc. (CPSI) on Tuesday reported first-quarter profit of $8.1 million.

On a per-share basis, the Mobile, Alabama-based company said it had profit of 55 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 81 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 66 cents per share.

The healthcare information technology company posted revenue of $77.9 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $75 million.
