NEW YORK (AP) _ Consolidated Edison Inc. (ED) on Thursday reported second-quarter earnings of $165 million.

On a per-share basis, the New York-based company said it had net income of 48 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 53 cents per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 62 cents per share.

The utility posted revenue of $2.97 billion in the period.

Con Ed expects full-year earnings in the range of $4.15 to $4.35 per share.

Con Ed shares have risen 4% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has increased 18%. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $75.32, an increase of slightly more than 2% in the last 12 months.
