Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG), a leading competitive electricity supplier, today announced it will match the estimated electricity usage of the American Planning Association's (APA) 2011 National Planning Conference with 50 Green-e Energy certified renewable energy certificates (RECs) from wind facilities. The conference will be held April 9-12 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.

"We're pleased to provide these renewable energy certificates in support of APA's commitment to a greener environment and building a nation of vital communities," said Michael Kagan, chief retail sales officer for Constellation Energy.

"Promoting the use of renewable energy sources is important in helping create sustainable places," said W. Paul Farmer, FAICP, APA's chief executive officer. "We are pleased to highlight the importance of green, renewable energy, which aligns with the planning profession's comprehensive viewpoint for our nation's communities."

A REC represents the environmental benefits of electricity generated by wind, solar or other renewable power facilities. By matching the electricity used at APA's National Planning Conference with RECs, Constellation avoids 55,943 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, which is equivalent to the annual greenhouse gas emissions from five passenger vehicles.

More than 5,000 planning professionals are expected to attend APA's National Planning Conference, which will honor innovative planning efforts and individuals. APA and its more than 40,000 members strive to create communities of lasting value that offer citizens more choices about where to live, work and recreate.
