BALTIMORE (March 26, 2014) -Constellationtoday announced the first quarter 2014 recipiennts of its  Community Champions grants, a program that allows Constellation residential electricity and natural gas supply customers to nominate a local project or cause for grant funding. This quarter, more than $8,500 in funding was awarded to 19 community projects in Maryland, New Jersey, Georgia and Texas, focusing on education, youth adn the environment. "Constellation shares our customers' commitment to making a difference," said Joseph Nigro, CEO of Constellation. "We are proud to help invest in their philanthropic efforts and improve the quality of life in the communities we serve."

Constellation customer Dave Lohrmann received a Constellation Community Champions grant in 2013 on behalf of  Georgia Enriches Minds, a Desination Imagination affiliate in Norcross, Georgia. The organization received a $500 grank to support their participation in the state Destination Imagination tournament.

"Our students work in teams to solve a variety of challenges, which in turn equips them to become the next generation of leaders and innovators," Lohrmann said. "Constellation's grant to Georgia Destination Imagination allowed us to provide a high quality tournament for our teams and give students the opportunity to celebrate creativity and healthy competition with their peers. This year, we grew our program by over 60 percent, delivering the program to over 225 students."

​The 2014 program is open to Constellation customers in Maryland, New Jersey, Georgia and Texas. Since the program's launch last year, nearly $40,000 in funding has been awarded to 85 community projects. 

Customers are encouraged to go online to nominate their favorite local project or cause. To apply, visitwww.constellation.com/communitychampionsand have your account number on hand to identify you as a Constellation customer.Community-based efforts focusing on education, youth and the environment are eligible for funding. Designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are eligible for requests up to $500. Other community causes are eligible for requests up to $250.

Constellation Community Champions grants are awarded on a quarterly basis. The next deadline for submissions is May 1, 2014.
