Consumers Energy Company is an electric and gas utility company. The Company owns and operates electric generation and distribution facilities and gas transmission, storage, and distribution facilities. It operates through two segments: Consumers Electric Utility and Consumers Gas Utility. The Consumers Electric Utility segment's operations include the generation, purchase, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity. The Consumers Gas Utility segment's operations include the purchase, transmission, storage, distribution and sale of natural gas. It provides electricity and/or natural gas to approximately 6.8 million of Michigan’s residents. The Company’s customer base consists of a mix of primarily residential, commercial, and diversified industrial customers.
