Costain has received a silver award from the Inclusive Employers Standard (IES).

The IES is a framework to support organisations to deliver inclusion and diversity strategies, embed robust measurement and continuous improvement in becoming an inclusive employer.

Commenting on the award, Costain's group equality, diversity and inclusion lead, Chair of Costain's LGBT+ and Allies Network Jyoti Sehdev said, "We're delighted to have been awarded silver in the Inclusive Employers Standard. It's another endorsement of the pioneering work we are doing at Costain to ensure we have a diverse team, working to create and deliver smarter and more resilient solutions for our clients."

Costain is committed to having a workforce that is truly representative of the communities in which it operates by 2030 and will publish its Ethnicity Pay Gap report in 2022, ahead of it becoming a legal requirement. Senior leaders are trained to be visible allies across the business, as part of a wider Active Allies programme.

Jyoti added, "We recognise that to attract and retain diverse talent we need to create a culture which is inclusive. By taking steps to equip all our colleagues to be active allies for each other, empowering them to 'call-out' against discrimination, and ensuring any systemic or unconscious bias is removed from our processes, we will instil inclusive behaviour into all that we do."

Rupert Moyne, managing director of corporate services at Inclusive Employers said, "Participants in this round of the Inclusive Employers Standard achieved the best set of results ever. Amazing. Their success is a huge credit to the many people working incredibly hard to make inclusion an everyday reality in their organisation. It is wonderful to see the inclusion momentum growing across these ambitious organisations."

Costain has a gold award from the Armed Forces Covenant, is a Stonewall Diversity Champion, a Working Families Employer Member, and a Disability Confident. The company has featured in the Top 50 Employers for Women four years in a row.
