Costco Wholesale Corp. said sales rose 16.9% for the retail month of June compared to a year ago.
The company logged $18.92 billion in sales for the period which rose from $16.18 billion a year earlier. The five-week period ended July 4.
Costco's total comparable sales rose 14.1%. They were highest in Canada, which saw an increase of 23.4%. E-commerce sales rose 20.8%.
When taking out impacts from changes in gas prices and foreign exchange, comparable sales increased 7.9%. Those also rose the most in Canada, rising 8.9%. E-commerce sales, taking out those factors, rose 18%.
The company said because of Memorial Day's shift on the calendar, the June retail month this year was a shopping day shorter than last year, which hurt sales by about one and one half to two percent.
