Couple purchases their dream canal-side rooftop home in Milton Keynes

Having previously owned a Crest Nicholson property at Oakgrove Village, in Milton Keynes, Gill and Robert Prince heard about the plans for the new Campbell Wharf development when it was under construction and immediately asked to be added to the waiting list. They purchased a two bedroom rooftop apartment at the popular canal-side development, using Crest's Part Exchange scheme to sell an investment property they owned, and moved into their new home in February 2021.

Gill, a landscape photographer and copywriter, has been living in Milton Keynes for 28 years and is a big advocate of the area, due to its beautiful countryside - and the town's layout, which is designed to maximise access to green space for all residents. She commented: 'We love living in MK, and being able to walk for miles through parkland, without crossing a single road. We had our names on the list for Campbell Wharf before there was even list, and now we're here, it's amazing to be living by the Grand Union Canal. From our rooftop we can see for miles across Buckinghamshire, as well as overlooking the newly constructed marina, one of the older brick canal bridges and Willen Lake in the distance.'

Campbell Wharf provides easy access to Milton Keynes Central station, which offers direct trains to London in 36 minutes, meaning the development is perfect for commuting while still nestled in the countryside. The town centre is only a 10 minute walk from the development through the picturesque Campbell Park, and boasts two shopping centres, the Xscape complex with indoor skiing and skydiving, and entertainment facilities, including bowling and a cinema.

All apartments at Campbell Wharf have been expertly designed for the flexible needs of a modern homebuyer and benefit from a range of exceptional local amenities. The development includes large areas of open communal gardens with seating areas, and footbridge linking the two sides of the canal which has recently opened - providing access to Willen Lake and beyond. A number of retail and hospitality outlets, and a McMullen & Sons pub, will also be coming to Campbell Wharf soon.

As keen walkers and photographers, both Gill and Rob love getting out to explore their natural surroundings. 'We're hoping to do some kayaking in the summer,' explained Gill, 'and I have also recently become involved with the new Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway Community Boat project, which Crest Nicholson has also supported for the residents.'

The scenic views of the horizon are among Gill and Rob's favourite aspects of their new home, which offers a 270-degree view of the skyline from the 8x3m roof terrace. Rob, who is a software developer, also highlighted the beneficial layout of the property, noting, 'the open-plan living area and kitchen allows a lot of natural sunlight in, while the second bedroom also functions as our home office, which is great whilst we're both working from home.'

Commenting on the moving process, the couple said using Crest Nicholson's Part Exchange scheme was instrumental in allowing them to move. 'Not being tied into a chain made the whole moving process simpler and easier for us, with Crest Nicholson's team valuing our investment property and handling the logistics of the part exchange process. We also used Crest's recommended mortgage advisor, who allowed us to get a buy to let mortgage on our previous home, so that we could buy the new property outright. The sales team and the site team at Campbell Wharf were brilliant and kept us informed throughout the whole process, as well as being on hand to help before and after the move.'

One bedroom apartments are available from £247,950, two bedroom apartments from £299,950 and three bedroom apartments from £379,000 and investors could achieve over 5% rental yield when buying a property at Campbell Wharf. For those looking for shared ownership options, Crest Nicholson's Home Reach Part Buy Part Rent is available on a selection of properties, with prices starting from £115,000 for a one bedroom apartment and £161,250 for a two bedroom apartment.
