On March 7, 2021, CRRC-made metro trains for Guangzhou Metro Line 18 reached a speed of 176km/h in the stepped speed increase test, creating a new record of metro train pilot run speed in China. The stepped speed increase test consisted of seven speed levels, gradually increasing from 80km/h to 160km/h, and eventually reaching 176km/h, which is 110% of the designed speed.

Guangzhou Metro Line 18 is the first all-underground metro line with a speed of 160km/h. The trains for this line, as those for Line 22, all consist of 8 Type D cars. Developed by CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Co., Ltd., the train fully leverages the motor train set and metro technological platform. Horizontal and vertical seat arrangement is adopted, and the train features high speed level, large passenger capacity, fast stop/start, and fast boarding and landing, satisfying the traveling needs of urban life circles. In the future, the vision of reaching the main districts of Guangzhou from Nansha Free Trade Zone within 30 minutes will be realized. The line will hopefully be extended to the south and the north, and become an important rail transit hub line of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

The project is the first metro project integrating 'manufacturing + after sales service' executed by CRRC Guangzhou, a subsidiary of CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Co., Ltd. CRRC Guangzhou made every effort to ensure the successful completion of tasks including the arrival of the trains, the hot sliding test, and the speed increase test.
