ISA CTEEP expands ESG targets linked to executive bonuses
Objective is to strengthen the participation of senior leadership in generating sustainable value for society

São Paulo, May 4, 2021 - Reducing the frequency of accidents, ensuring the physical progress of projects and reducing the rate of unscheduled unsupported energy are ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance) indicators which already make up the goals with an impact on the bonuses of the senior leadership of ISA CTEEP, the largest private energy transmission company in the country. As of this year, the goal of reducing CO² emissions will be incorporated.

In this way, the company strengthens the participation of executives who have a variable compensation system to the commitment to generate sustainable value for society, in line with one of its strategic vectors 'Create positive social and environmental impacts'.

Among the indicators that make up the variable compensation system, there is, for example, a reduction in the emission of two million tons of CO², worldwide, by 2030. 'We have to move forward in building a sustainable agenda and share the responsibilities to enable the generation of value in everything we do. We seek to increasingly advance in environmental, social and governance issues, impacting not only our business, but the whole society', explains Rui Chammas, ISA CTEEP´s CEO.

In this sense, the company promotes measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and water and energy consumption in all its facilities. In 2020, for example, through specific maintenance actions, in addition to improving the techniques applied in the annual asset maintenance plan, the company reduced the emission of SF6 by more than 8%, a gas with an impact on the greenhouse effect, but essential for the electrical sector for its insulating properties. This year, the transmission company will adopt, in armored substations, a machine to dehumidify the SF6 chambers, avoiding any risk of leakage and emission of greenhouse gases.

In order to promote the ZERO ACCIDENT culture among its employees and third parties, the company continues to invest in safety governance, promoting engagement and awareness actions across the entire staff, including leadership, as management committees, in addition to reviewing practices and processes.

Still with a view to generating positive social and environmental impacts, the company has been working to reduce the unscheduled unsupported energy index, which reduces interruptions in the energy supply, as well as ensuring the delivery of new projects in the shortest possible time, essential for the continuity of the electric energy supply, a key asset to society. ISA CTEEP has already completed the energization of 4 of the 14 projects auctioned in transmission auctions since 2016, with an average advance of 11 months in response to the deadline set by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), ensuring greater robustness to the electrical system.

Other ESG initiatives

The company, committed to its social and environmental responsibility, maintains the Jaguar Connection Program, a sustainability initiative whose objective is to promote the conservation of biodiversity and the mitigation of climate changes, through the implementation of forestry projects in priority areas for protection, recovery and connection of the habitat and corridors of the jaguar. Considered the best corporate emissions compensation program by the Environmental Finance Awards ranking, the Jaguar Connection Program works to protect more than 76 thousand hectares in the Serra do Amolar, located in the Pantanal.

Another initiative that is part of the sustainable agenda is the issuance of green bonds to finance fundamental projects for the flow of electric energy from renewable sources in the country, contributing to a low carbon economy. In 2020, the company issued R$ 1.6 billion of these bonds, known in the market as green bonds. The issuance of debentures with a green seal is voluntary and signals to investors and other market agents that the company follows adequate performance standards in terms of sustainability and transparency, besides being considered an important instrument in the fight against climate change and an incentive to more efficient and strategic use of natural resources.

In January of this year, ISA CTEEP joined the Carbon Efficient Index (ICO2 B3) for the first time. ICO2 was created in 2010 with the purpose of being an instrument to induce discussions about climate change in Brazil. To be included in the portfolio, companies must be part of IBrX-100 index, have joined the ICO2 initiative and report their annual greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory data according to the scope and within the timeframe defined by B3.

In parallel with the environmental goals, the company contemplates actions aimed at promoting and expanding diversity. With the renovation carried out last year, the executive board was renewed with the expansion of the participation of women to 60%, electing the first woman to occupy the position of Executive Board of Operations in its history.
