The Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (DNP) Warabi plant has been awarded the AAAis highest level security rating for the sixth consecutive year from I.S. Rating Co., Ltd (I.S. Rating) an information security company. The DNP Warabi plant is engaged in the mass processing of data and manufacture of direct mail, and was the first printing plant to be awarded the AAAis status in 2010. Other data centers and system operations have been awarded the AAAis status, but the Warabi plant is the only printing plant to have received the highest level security rating to date.

The DNP Warabi plant offers services that include the output of direct mail, billing statements, applications and individualized documentation in a high security environment based on data provided by companies and organizations. The plant can also processes this documentation into bonded envelops etc. for forwarding to consumers. In addition to maintaining a high level information security system, the Warabi plant also conducts educational activities and drills against Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) mail that has increased in recent years, and prohibits the importation of various wearable devices, such as wrist watch style devices. In this latest development, the rapid response activities of the DNP Warabi plant against such new threats have been recognized, and I.S. Rating has awarded the plant its highest AAAis rating for the sixth consecutive year. Looking ahead, DNP will make efforts to ensure even greater security, and offer high quality services. The DNP Group Information Security Committee has established information security committees to oversee information security systems at each operational division, and has implemented the following measures:

  • Security guards have been installed to monitor entrance and exit controls to high security areas. Smart card identification-driven security gates have also been introduced in order to prevent tailgating, where unauthorized personnel follow authorized personnel into security areas. In addition, multiple security cameras have also been installed to create a highly effective detective, deterrent and preventative institutional environment.
  • Examples of educational activities include, case studies and the introduction of written comprehension testing. Responses are also been tested against new threats, including education and drills promoting awareness of APT mail, and also against the thorough ban on the importation of wearable devices.
  • DNP has also applied an originally developed quality control system in the manufacturing process, and controls products on a pass-through, and page-unit basis. In addition to conducting anomaly detection, such as envelop insertion failure, addressing and contents matching errors, traceability functions facilitate the detection of defects in the post-manufacturing phase.

The Warabi plant has also received ongoing external accreditation, including ISO9001 (quality), ISO14001 (Environment), ISO22301 (Business Continuity Management Systems), ISO/IEC27001 (Information Security Management System), and PrivacyMark certification. Plant certification has also been received from the global credit card brands, including VISA and MasterCard.
