LEINFELDEN-ECHTERDINGEN/GÖTEBORG (dpa-AFX) - Commercial vehicle manufacturers Daimler Truck and Volvo are collaborating on software. They have founded a joint venture called Coretura for this purpose. In the future, it will develop a joint software-defined vehicle platform and a truck operating system, as the two companies announced in Leinfelden-Echterdingen and Gothenburg. The cooperation was announced last year.
Daimler Truck CEO Karin Radstrom said there would be a clear strategic focus on software development for commercial vehicles. Volvo CEO Martin Lundstedt said the joint venture underscores the commitment to not only advance products but also pave the way for sustainable and intelligent transport solutions.
The German and Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturers emphasized that both companies would remain competitors and would continue to focus on a completely independent range of products and services, including their respective digital solutions. Daimler Truck and Volvo are already working together in areas such as the production and development of fuel cells. The new company, Coretura, will initially have 50 employees and will be based in Gothenburg. It will be led by Volvo manager Johan Lunden./ols/DP/jha
