Daimler Truck and Volvo Group officially launched their new joint venture on Tuesday, aiming to create an open and standardized software platform for their buses and trucks.

Born from a MoU signed last October and now approved by the regulatory authorities, the new entity, named 'Coretura', is intended to embody the two manufacturers' desire to jointly develop the software infrastructure for their future heavy-duty vehicles.

Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, the joint venture began operations at the beginning of the month with around 50 employees, but its workforce is set to grow, according to Daimler and Volvo.

As vehicles become increasingly digital, Coretura's mission is to develop an open, standardized, software-defined platform with a dedicated operating system.

"Together, we are ushering in the digital future of trucks and buses, making commercial vehicles smarter, more connected and more efficient than ever before," said Karin Radström, CEO of Daimler Truck.

"By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and collaborative innovation, we are laying the foundation for a new era of connectivity and performance in the industry," added Martin Lundstedt, her counterpart at Volvo.

Coretura will be led by a four-member management team, with two members from each partner company.

Johan Lundén, who previously held the position of head of strategic product planning, project management and innovation at Volvo, will serve as CEO.
