DASSAULT AVIATION For its October-November 2021 issue, the bimonthly magazine "Raids Aviation" features a very rich "Paris-Moscow" program, with a focus on the fighter squadron 2/5 Île-de-France, another on the Rafale, as well as two aircraft from the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
In this issue, the magazine dedicates a whole article (featured on the cover) to the only Air and Space unit still equipped with Mirage 2000 RDIs. It also happens to be celebrating its 80th anniversary this year: the fighter squadron 2/5 Île-de-France. To mark the occasion, a tactical demonstration patrol was formed, which did not go unnoticed by the magazine's journalists, recalling the unit's glorious past.
In the form of an interim review, the October-November issue also takes stock of the strong points of the Dassault Rafale, recalling that the flagship of the Air Force, launched in the 1980s, is an aircraft that meets "the fundamentals of a 21st century fighter plane, thanks to a weapons system that is upgraded by successive standards."
Regarding the current situation of military aviation abroad, the bi-monthly publication revisits the Moscow International Aviation and Space Show (MAKS) held in July of 2021, to present the Sukhoi SU-75 Checkmate, a stealth fighter from the "fifth generation", which is currently under development. Still in Russia, but this time in the bomber category, the editorial team chose to highlight the Tupolev TU-160 BlackJack.
Next stop: Japan, for a tribute to an aviation legend, the F-4EJ Phantom II (McDonnell Douglas), the last Japanese squadron operating the plane was deactivated in early 2021. Happy reading!
