Delta CEO Ed Bastian will welcome Spelman President Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D. for the sixth episode of Gaining Altitude on March 30 for a discussion on closing the diversity gap and leading during crisis.

Dr. Campbell is the 10th president of Spelman College, a historically Black college in Atlanta tailored to nurturing Black women. During her time at Spelman, Campbell launched Imagine. Invent. Ascend, a strategic vision to ensure every Spelman student graduates with a competitive edge. It also expands Spelman's strategic partnerships, deepens its excellence in STEM and expands the college's signature academic programs.
Dr. Campbell is also the host of Spelman College's series "Courageous Conversations: Black in the C Suite," a show similar in nature to Gaining Altitude.
Outside of the classroom, she serves as a trustee of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the J. Paul Getty Trust and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, and as a director of Unity Technologies.
Before becoming president, Dr. Campbell worked as the Dean of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and incubated several new arts and technology divisions within the school and the university. She also held positions such as the director of the Studio Museum and as commissioner of cultural affairs for New York City under two mayors. In 2009, former U.S. President Barack Obama appointed Dr. Campbell as the vice chair of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
Gaining Altitude is an enlightening series of conversations worth navigating, connecting people while building understanding around the globe. Bastian hosts the one-on-one discussions with insightful leaders, covering topics including diversity, equity and inclusion, servant leadership, entrepreneurship, sustainability and mental health.
Dr. Campbell will be the sixth guest invited by Bastian to appear on Gaining Altitude. The series premiered featuring Tristan Walker, the founder and CEO of Walker and Company Brands and the founder of the non-profit Code2040.
Entrepreneurship and the importance of failure, service and the role empathy plays in business were the topics discussed in Gaining Altitude'ssecond episode featuring Danny Meyer, the CEO and founder of Union Square Hospitality Group and founder of Shake Shack.
Sustainability, all-electric ambitions, building up young women and personal reflections on leadership during challenging times were the highlights of Bastian's conversation with General Motors Chair and CEO Mary Barra during the third episode of Gaining Altitude.
Topics such as addressing diversity and race in the workplace, challenging the status quo and being your authentic self were on the table when Bastian and Jopwell CEO and Co-Founder Porter Braswell met for the second time on the latest episode of the series.
The intersectionality of sports and business, along with philanthropy were topics of discussion as Ed welcomed philanthropist and NFL great Larry Fitzgerald for the fifth episode of Gaining Altitude.
