One-of-a-kind works by local artists will welcome travelers at Delta's new Terminal C at New York-LaGuardia

02/23/2022 | 05:15am EDT

The latest Delta Air Lines news covering business, health and safety, leadership, routes and waivers, Delta people, our values and more.

Six world-renowned, New York-based artists will create permanent large-scale art installations for customers to enjoy at Delta's brand-new, world-class Terminal C at New York - LaGuardia (LGA), when it opens later this spring.

The selection of the artists was announced today by Delta, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the Queens Museum. The permanent pieces include sculptures and painted ceramic murals by Mariam Ghani, Rashid Johnson, Aliza Nisenbaum, Virginia Overton, Ronny Quevedo and Fred Wilson.

"This is a one-of-a-kind collaboration for a one-of-a-kind terminal, and we're grateful that the talent and vision of these six incredible New York-based artists will be part of the elevated experience of our new facility," said Ryan Marzullo, Delta's Managing Director - New York Corporate Real Estate.

The artwork, which will display in the building's multi-floor, light-filled entry space as well as in baggage claim and other areas throughout Delta's terminal, will tell a compelling story of New York's immigrant history, its people and the importance of celebrating diversity throughout the city.

"We are thrilled to be working with Delta Air Lines to commission new permanent artworks by world leading artists who live and work in New York City, the most exciting cultural destination in the world," said Sally Tallant, President of the Queens Museum. "It is fitting that we welcome everyone, visitors and residents alike, with a new terminal presenting art that speaks to the city's spirit and creativity."

Terminal C at LaGuardia is one of the most significant infrastructure projects opening in New York City in 2022. When complete, the $3.9 billion airport project will include a consolidated headhouse and 37 gates across four concourses. The headhouse opens this spring, and the entire four-concourse terminal is expected to be fully complete by the end of 2024, almost two years earlier than originally planned due to accelerated construction throughout the pandemic.

Over the past decade, Delta has invested more than $12 billion in airport hubs across the country, cementing its commitment to modernize and transform the travel experience. In the next few months alone, in addition to opening Terminal C at LGA, Delta in April will open the first phase of the new Delta Sky Way at Los Angeles International Airport. Delta has also been closely engaged with the Port of Seattle on the construction of a new 450,000-square foot International Arrivals Facility at Sea-Tac International Airport, which opens in March.
