SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) _ Denny's Corp. (DENN) on Tuesday reported third-quarter net income of $6.5 million.

On a per-share basis, the Spartanburg, South Carolina-based company said it had net income of 10 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 1 cent per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 4 cents per share.

The restaurant operator posted revenue of $71.6 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $67.8 million.

Denny's shares have decreased 47% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $10.61, a decrease of 51% in the last 12 months.
