Deutsche Post AG said Wednesday that it has invested 250 million euros ($297.6 million) in a package sorting technology to be deployed in some parcel centers.

The investment was made as part of a contract with Beumer Group GmbH & Co. KG for the development of the technology, Deutsche Post said.

The system, which is now being tested at a pilot site, should come to use by 2023 in eight other parcel centers, the German freight-and-logistics group added.

It will allow the additional sorting of 126,000 parcels per hour in the whole of the company's parcel network, according to Deutsche Post.
