According to a media report, Deutsche Telekom has secured the TV broadcasting rights for the 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup.
The agreement with football's global governing body FIFA is set to be officially announced on Friday, "Bild" reported on Tuesday. MagentaTV, the television division of the Bonn-based company, would then be able to broadcast all 104 matches live. Telekom declined to comment directly on the matter, referring instead to a press conference scheduled for Friday.
The telecommunications group had previously secured the rights to the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship. At that time, however, MagentaTV only broadcast a few matches exclusively, with the majority aired by other broadcasters to whom Telekom had granted sublicenses. The revenue from these sublicenses nearly covered the cost of the rights and brought Telekom a surge in new customers.
