BERLIN/BONN (dpa-AFX) - The trade union Verdi has once again called on postal workers across Germany to go on warning strike on Monday and Tuesday in the wage dispute at Deutsche Post. Work stoppages are planned in selected plants in the letter and parcel centers and in delivery, Verdi had announced in Berlin on Sunday. On Monday, protest rallies are scheduled in Berlin, Rostock and Munich, on Tuesday in Dortmund, Hamburg, Saarbrücken, Polch (Rhineland-Palatinate), Nuremberg, Frankfurt/Main and Stuttgart.
"This is once again a crystal-clear signal to the employers: the employees are ready to fight for their demands and now expect a round of negotiations that ends with a substantial pay increase," said Verdi deputy chairwoman and negotiator Andrea Kocsis.
The union is demanding 15 percent more pay for the approximately 160,000 employees covered by collective bargaining agreements, with a contract term of one year. The Post Board rejects the demand as unrealistic. The negotiations will continue in a third round on February 8 and 9 in Düsseldorf. Deutsche Post has announced that it will present an offer then.
Warning strikes had already been held on several days in January. Most recently, 20 percent of parcels and 9 percent of letters were not delivered on one day due to the walkouts./juc/DP/mis
