In order to be selected in the chart, enterprises must meet the rigorous criteria of the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI). The Index was developed to measure value of enterprises based on the criteria of sustainable development from economic, environmental and social aspects. This is also the first Index in Vietnam that is dedicated to measure business performance towards sustainable development. It was developed based on the international guidelines and practices and adjusted to suit the domestic context. Indicators are tools for recording measurement objectives and managing changes to make business operations more sustainable. In 2018, the criteria in the CSI have been adjusted by reducing from 134 criteria to 131 criteria including three areas: Economy, Society, Environment, to more accurately measure the level of sustainable development of enterprises.

Dr. Vu Tien Loc, Chairman of VCCI said: 'Based on the assessment and selection of over 500 enterprises, the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development selected 100 sustainable development enterprises of Vietnam in 2018. Especially, this year, outstanding enterprises who have been voted the Top 100 for three consecutive years (2016 - 2017 - 2018) were worthy of recognition of the Organizing Committee. During the last 3 years, enterprises in Vietnam have taken an active part in the building sustainable development enterprises. Therefore, the award of Sustainable Development Enterprises not only helps increase the enterprises' value but also create opportunities to expand the market for them. Moreover, by this award, we always try to encourage the Vietnamese business community to change their business thoughts and to look at sustainable development with a new lens. First of all, it is not an unreachable story of big companies, corporations, or the Great Powers of the world. It is a accessible story existing everywhere, an essential requirement of development. We encourage enterprises to incorporate CSI into their hearts, so CSI can help them build the best sustainable development strategies and promote strongly their potential'.
