Dollar General : Celebrates Dr. Seuss’s Birthday with $150,000 in School Donations

To celebrate National Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss's birthday, Dollar General awarded $150,000 as part of the Company's Reading Revolution program to three communities on March 2, 2021.

Dollar General representatives visited Bethel Elementary in Bethel, Pennsylvania; Jefferson Elementary in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Jonesville Elementary and Middle School in Jonesville, South Carolina, ready to start a revolution. With yellow and black boxes in hand, leaders at each school opened the boxes to find a special surprise of $50,000 inside as part of the company's Reading Revolution program.

'During a school-year when education has been disrupted and the needs are great, we are excited to celebrate National Read Across America Day by investing in efforts that will help enhance literacy instruction in these hometown communities,' said Denine Torr, Dollar General's senior director of community initiatives and executive director of Dollar General's Literacy Foundation. 'We hope these funds will help teachers and students have access to the resources and instruction they need to excel.'

Reading Revolution funds are intended to be used to improve literacy and education goals through the purchase of books, technology programs, computers and/or other educational supplies or resources.

Since its inception in 2013, Dollar General's Reading Revolution program has donated more than $3.8 million to schools.
