Organizations large and small, and industries as different from one another as retail and healthcare, have similar problems when it comes to data: it's everywhere, there's a lot of it, and you've got to figure out how to connect to, organize, transform, and democratize it across the entire enterprise.

However, if you can overcome those problems, you will find that about 80% of the work that goes into a successful BI deployment has been achieved-at least according to one IT specialist.

'It's a monumental task for any organization,' said Joshua Stan, the vice president of IT for CTI Foods, 'but thanks to solutions like Domo, it's doable.'

That's because Domo was developed to manage your entire data pipeline, from connecting data to building out a data lake or data warehouse to sharing data in a way that is easy for end users to understand and use.

It all starts with connecting data. A lot of organizations have many disparate systems throughout the enterprise. They might have a data warehouse or even a data lake that centralizes a lot of the data-but it might not be complete.

With Domo, you can connect to any data source out there if it has an API, or bring data in through any of the more than 1,000 pre-built integrations in Domo's connector library.

During Joshua's second proof of concept with Domo, he connected to more than two dozen different data sources with hundreds of datasets in just a few weeks. If he wanted to, he could've even scaled to trillions of rows of data.

'And you don't have to manage all the resources in the back end,' Joshua said. 'Domo manages all of it for you.'

Once you've connected your data, it's important to organize it. In Domo, things like dataset types, dataset tags, and customizable schemas make it easy for users to find data and use it.

As well, Domo makes available QuickStart apps and data governance sets that can tell you all about your datasets, including update history.

The third piece of the puzzle is data transformation, which involves combining various data types, such as Salesforce data with, say, ERP data and marketing campaign data.

Domo addresses transformation through several tools including:

  • Magic ETL, which offers an easy-to-use, drag-and-drop interface for data transformations
  • Dataset Views, which allow business users to explore data and perform simple operations
  • Adrenaline, which enables sub-second queries

The final step is data democratization, which is basically making data accessible to everyone in the organization so that they can build their own content and dashboards.

Domo simplifies that process, too, by providing a platform 'that even a 2-year-old could learn,' Joshua said, and valuable insights in the proper context.

Added Joshua: 'Domo is a complete integrated solution coming from your source system all the way down to your production environment. And the best part about it is you don't have to be an IT person or know any programming languages to make it work for you. With Domo, anyone in the organization can be a data hero.'
