DoorDash : Partners with League of American Bicyclists To Support Safe, Bicycle Friendly Roads Across the United States

League of American Bicyclists and DoorDash to jointly advocate for policies that make streets safer and more sustainable, as well as produce educational resources for bike-based Dashers and Dashers who share the road with cyclists.

Dashers play a critical role in our communities, connecting customers to the best in their neighborhoods, including essential items, groceries, and meals. As part of our mission to empower local economies, DoorDash believes strongly in working to make our cities more safe and sustainable, and we are committed to working with Dashers, advocates, policymakers, and other stakeholders to meet these goals. We're proud that our platform provides a low barrier to earning income, enabling many Dashers to sign up and begin dashing using a bike, e-bike, or even deliver by foot. As part of our ongoing work to support Dasher safety, we're committed to designing initiatives that speak directly to this group of Dashers and their experience on the roads.

That's why today, we're thrilled to announce our partnership with the League of American Bicyclists, an organization dedicated to making biking safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities. The League and DoorDash share a common goal of facilitating bike-friendly streets, accelerating the adoption of bikes and e-bikes, and pursuing initiatives that help keep vulnerable road users safer, such as increased investment in human-centric infrastructure.

As part of the partnership, DoorDash will work alongside the League to produce educational materials and resources for both bike-based Dashers and drivers who share the road with bicyclists. DoorDash and the League will distill key safety information from the League's Smart Cycling resources to produce educational modules intended to help bike-based Dashers stay safe while on the road. The modules will cover topics designed to improve rider confidence on safely starting and stopping bikes and e-bikes, lane positioning in congested areas, and how to safely navigate areas with high collision rates, such as intersections. In addition, DoorDash and the League are filming videos for motorists to safely share the road with cyclists. These videos will be converted into short, written tips, and easily accessible to Dashers for continued safety learning.

Because of my disability, riding an e-bike keeps me active while letting me do my part to protect the environment for my children and family," said Mozeik Perkins, a Dasher from New York and a member of the New York Dasher Advisory Council. "I'm thrilled that DoorDash is partnering up with the League of American Bicyclists, since so many Dashers prefer to use bikes. I feel safer knowing that DoorDash is working to improve my experience on the road, and this partnership is an important step in advocating for the very bike-friendly policies we need to make sure bike-based Dashers stay safe."

In addition to safety education, DoorDash will join the League in advocating for critical policy solutions to increase access to sustainable modes of transportation, reduce traffic-related injuries, and reimagine our transportation network to make safe streets a reality, particularly for all vulnerable road users. Just this year, DoorDash supported the League in advocating for Congress to include the E-Bike Act in the Build Back Better (BBB) bill. This policy is designed to reduce the costs of e-bikes, which can be prohibitively expensive for many consumers.

"DoorDash's support for updated bike education videos and new driver education videos will help make our roads that much safer for everyone."

This partnership builds on DoorDash's existing safety efforts which include our recently launched in-app Dasher safety toolkit SafeDash, our partnership with the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives, and our dedicated 24/7 Trust and Safety team. We've also advocated elsewhere for street safety policy, including our support of the 25 x 25 Campaign in New York. Additionally, in 2019 DoorDash became the first in the industry to offer occupational accident insurance at no cost to Dashers and with no-opt-in required, helping support Dashers if they're injured while delivering on our platform.
