Downer's Hawkins and Road Science (NZ) teams attended The New Zealand Workplace Health and Safety Awards recenly, both as finalists in the Safety category section.

Hawkins was nominated for their Elizabeth Street Project in Tauranga - where the project required the operation of two large tower cranes working in close proximity. Management of crane operations to ensure protection of the public, building users and site staff was front of mind, and significant time was spent understanding the technical aspects and operating software of each crane.

The range of controls adopted enabled the project to be undertaken successfully. The Tauranga team are now sharing their learnings nationally and are being adapted on other Hawkins project sites across the business.

Road Science was nominated for their Mobile Data Capture Unit, which has world-leading technology that provides an incredible service while keeping people safe - more information can be found here:https://lnkd.in/fkNpnJq.

And...a big congratulations goes to Road Science who won the award!

The judging panel recognised Road Science for their innovation, stating that by adopting new technologies they have reduced exposure and time spent in the road corridor.

Congratulations to both Hawkins and Road Science for their initiatives - it speaks volumes that two out of three finalists for the category are part of the Downer whānau!
