Dubai Islamic Bank participates in 20th National Career Exhibition

DIB moves towards a more Human Capital concept rather than Human Resource

DIB's efforts in yielding strong Emiratisation results acknowledged during event

Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), the UAE's largest Islamic Bank, announced the success of its participation at the 20th edition of the National Career Exhibition, held under the patronage of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Supported by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Emirates Institute for Banking & Financial Studies, the National Career Exhibition was held in early February at the Expo Centre, Sharjah. The exhibition is seen as an integral part of the government's initiative to successfully integrate national manpower into the country's workforce under various Emiratisation schemes.

During his visit to the DIB stand Obaid Al Shamsi, Chief of Human Resources and Administration at Dubai Islamic Bank, presented a memento to His Highness Shaikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi for his infinite support and direction in arranging the career fair for 20 years. Over the past two decades, the National Career Exhibition was recognized as one of the most significant career events in the country as it offers vast training and employment opportunities for Emirati youth from leading organisations in both the public and private sectors.

Commenting on the bank's participation at the 20th National Career Exhibition, Obaid Al Shamsi, said: 'At DIB, we place a lot of importance in nurturing and fine tuning the skills of the talent at the bank, so we set a high benchmark while recruiting young Emirati talent for DIB. It is with this goal in mind that we participate in career fairs like the National Career Exhibition in Sharjah, which besides being one of the top career fair initiatives, is the only event which is focused on showcasing potential talent for the banking sector.

At the career fair, DIB featured the different programs offered to UAE Nationals, Mr. Obaid Al Shamsi added: 'We believe our HR department is the link between the business requirements and talent in the local market, so we see ourselves moving towards a more Human Capital concept rather than Human Resource. We have made a shift from the traditional quantitative method of recruiting UAE Nationals within the organization into a strategic qualitative approach focusing on the future development of employees to fulfil key roles within the bank. With this in mind, we focus holistically on the evaluations of employees' performance including their prospects for promotion as well as management and career development'

'In 2017, our Emiratisation ratio reached over 44%, our results and commitment to the development of distinguished careers for young Emiriati are aligned with the UAE's National Agenda 2021, which is to increase the number of Emiratis working in the public and private sector by tenfold. As the largest Islamic bank in the UAE, we see our role in contributing to this national agenda as pivotal, as it is a part of our corporate responsibility to our nation, our leadership and the community,' Mr. Obaid concluded.

Recognising DIB's continued efforts in yielding strong Emiratisation results, Mr. Al Shamsi received a Certificate of Appreciation from His Highness Shaikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi.

DIB has a longstanding heritage of supporting the development of the local community in the UAE. For more than forty years, Emiratisation has been a key element of the bank's philosophy, with the aim of fostering the next generation of leaders. Other key HR initiatives at DIB include several Emirati-focused programs such as the Masaar Program, Taalam Program, Emarati Program and High Potential Employee Program to support the development of the local community.
