CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Duke Energy Corp. (DUK) on Thursday reported third-quarter net income of $1.3 billion.

On a per-share basis, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based company said it had profit of $1.74. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $1.87 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.79 per share.

The electric utility posted revenue of $6.72 billion in the period.

Duke Energy expects full-year earnings in the range of $5.05 to $5.20 per share.

Duke Energy shares have increased almost 3% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen almost 7%. The stock has decreased slightly in the last 12 months.
